- Title of the project: complex develop for the children who are living with handicap in the area of Cegléd
- Term of the program: 36 months
- Localities of the project:
- Cegléd, Developmental Center
- Csemő, Gyöngyvirágos Tölgyes – Horse farm
- Problems, needs (datas) of the area: we have no exact datas of the families at this area who are bringing up handicapped child; in the specialists' opininon there are about 200 children who are living with badly handicap, moving-, learning-, behaviour disorder, mentally handicap, autism and they need special development. Though most of the handicapped children pass into an institution, and get the legally ordered attendance for the education- time, but their special development is not solved. This situation is a difficult problem for the badly handicapped and specially backward children (Rett- syndrom, autism) and their families. We need high qualificated specialist- team for their treatment and development. These specialists develop the children's communication and mental capabilities and teach them more independence. It lightens the burdens of the families and the society. For this we need remedial teachers', physiotherapists', doctors', hippotherapists', hidro- and balneotherapic specialists' cooperation. The children before the schoolage need mostly the early intervention, diagnosis the type of the disorder and starting the development at the right time. But the families who are living on villages and boondocks can't solve the problem of deficient informations, transportal and traffic problems. And these parents "hide" often from the situation, deny it, feel shame about it, bow to it or they are simply passive. That's why the informations are very important to change the approach of the handicapped people into a more positive way. They need a helper surroundings, not only the handicapped children and their parents but the healthy siblings too. At the right time started and properly done complex therapy could result in spectacular development for the badly handicapped children too. The specialists take account of the child's special health- problems and accordingly they do the child's moving- development, and the cognitive therapy at the same time.
A handicapped child's upbringing and development are a big burden for the families too who have easier circumstances and helper surroundings. The mother must to be at home with the child and the family is going to brake and tire physically.
More foundation is working at the area (Szimba Foundation, Paci Doki Foundation, Foundation for Autists) with the parents' and specialists' joint efforts to solve the problems and help the families. A smaller group of the badly handicapped children (10-12 person) can join in the therapeutic swiming and riding by these people's work and the tender, and government subsidy. Those parents can undertake it now, who have got a car and at least one of the parents can be home with the child and drive him/ her to the place of the therapy. - Project summery: a complex development program begins within the confines of the project for the children who need special treament at the area of Cegléd.
A part of the development will come true in the Development Center what we plan to furnish in Cegléd. Here the children would get the necessary hydrotherapy and cognitive development for their state. In this center 12 school aged, badly handicapped children's development would happen on one day regularly and 20 children with other kind of handicap would get balneo- and hydrotherapy twice a week. The Ceglédi Tanulási Képességeket Vizsgáló Bizottság (about Delegation of Cegléd City for the Review of Learning Capabilities) would choose the children for the treatments.
The other and important part of the development that a transport service would drive the children with a microbus to the horsefarm from the Center twice or three times a week. At the horsefarm hippotherapeutists and remedial teachers would lead the therapeutic riding. Here the badly handicapped children would get alternative therapies. Some of these therapies are available already now (detoxication, massage, reflexology).
The therapies at this two places jointly contribute to better the quality of handicapped children's life, development of their move, growth of the muscles and improving their independence. The organized transporting of the children is a big help for the parents. A transport service would drive the children with a microbus between the two places. The ride is 8 km.
For the succes of the program we need an indoor arena, because the therapy must to be stopped because of the autumn and winter cold. It is very unfavourable for the children's progress, because they can't practising continuously and don't make their muscles work. For the Developmnet Center at Cegléd a house is available, in what a hydrotherapy hall would be furnished at the ground floor and the first floor there are some rooms for special development or living. The building is capable for the handicapped people, it is clean and there is a lift in the house. - Participants of the program (takers, target audiences):
- Badly handicapped children
- Disabled children
- Children with learning and behavior disorder
- Children with special developmental disorder (autism, Rett-syndrome)
- Mentally handicapped children
- Goals and probable issues of the program: the most important goals of the project are changing more effective of the present system- with the complementary therapies, counting more with each child's special needs, giving a hand to the families who bring up a handicapped child, and the geting well of the quality of badly handicapped children's life.
Probable results:
- complementary therapy of early developments comes true by the cooperation of Pest County No 2. Tanulási Képességeket Vizsgáló Szakértői és Rehabilitációs Bizottság (about Delegation for the Review of Learning Capabilities and Rehabilitation)
- a europian level complex Development Center will be built for the handicapped people, and it could be a model for other areas
- a complementary education comes true for the school age children and in special cases this complex education is able to replace the school
- with the development of the handicapped children's state and periodic disencumbrance of the families their circumstances get well
- commune- creating, psychological help for the families with handicapped child
- a database will be created about the handicapped children at the area and the results of the complex development
- Added value of the program (what is the difference between this and the public service, etc): in the social institutions these children don't get correct move- development and health care. Only the richer families can have a car to get to the place of the therapeutic riding, balneotherapy, reflexology, alternative therapies and pay them. The planned service would call volunteers in the therapy- works and drive the children with a microbus from their home to the horsefarm and the hydrotherapy- centrum.
- Main activites of the program:
- Collecting datas, position paper at the area– choosing families into the program
- Formation of the co- operation with the special educational institutions, nurses, physicoterapists, doctors at the area
- Searching volunteers for the program, defining their work
- Creating a Developement Center in Cegléd (for congitive developement and hydrotherapeutic curing)
- Expansion of the Gyöngyvirágos Tölgyes horse- farm – building a covered (planned size: 40 x 25 m) riding arena, renovating the stock- yard to be place of the contact with the horse
- Starting a microbus transport service
- Elaborating the special remedial plans, the cildren's development, following of their physical and mental state, consultation with the families
- Campings at the summertime, community- forming, other activities for the handicapped children and their faimilies
- Showing of the results of the program on different forums (internet, professional meatings)
- Connecting with potential donors

Paci Doki Foundation, Csemő: the foundation cares for handicapped children's therapeutic riding for 4 years. Imre Domina, owner of the farm works with the handicapped children free, without consideration and makes pretty great successes. His work is known near the area and more and more people bring their disabled, autist or children with some other kind of handicap (www.pacidoki.hu).
Szimba Foundation, Cegléd: the foundation has come into existence in Cegléd in 2001 for helping to the disabled and mentally handicapped children in Cegléd and its area. They fight for a full- time center, where they can look after and develop the badly handicapped children (www.szimba-fegya.hu). - Sustainable (how can the activities continue after the end of the program): at the present conception the program needs two years to the level where the children's state in the firts group shows spectacular change. By the professional results we hope the program can move the group of the supporters and serious professional cooperation grows up with other organizations and it could further funds. Now we negotiate with the Pethő Institution, what keep the tabs on and support the work in the Development Center. Moreover these we think the rate of governmental help have to grow at this area, because if it doesn't happen the life of families with the handicapped children worsens and the children's state stagnates and fails.

- Passivity and missing strength at some families
- Not proper level of the governmental involvement
