Feeling well

Under the open sky- far from the hospital, the doctor's office or home – done exercises can help the development and stabilizing of the feeling well. It is good, if there is a playground or there are some animals at the given surroundings.

Growing of the self- confidence

The child's (every people's) self- confidence is so fragile. The riding (the experience that he/ she is able to sit on the horseback) gives the a child the feeling, what is irreplaceable. With the new forms of the move the self- confidence can progresse.

Interest in the environs

The child's world "shrinks" by the sickness. The riding raises the interest in the world (What happens around the rider?), and the child can "discover" the world from the saddle. It gives an other perspective of the surroundings (from up to down).

Growing of the interest in the own surroundings

The child gets used to the new circumstances slowly, and it becomes his/ her own surroundings. The emotion of the riding and the exercises impress the child, make him/ her to tell to other ones his/ her experiences. As the child gets to know the surroundings, he/ she opens up and he/ she can listen already the horses in the other pen too. Here I need to tell a pretty sweet story about a disabled child, who lives with talking- disorder. At the therapy she learned to start the horse with a "smacking sound" and then she smacked her lips for everyone all week.

Risk taking, sense of responsibility

At the very first time every child is feeling scared. The handicapped child's fear of the fresh, unknown things is bigger than the healthy one's. The therapeutist have to help to fight off the fear. The riding is not a safe sport. While the child is learning, he/ she gets to acquainted with the fear, the risk and gets new experiences, knowledges, routine and tries some other positions on the horseback too.

Patience

The sick child has to learn "to be patient", while he/ she is trying to lead the horse, because the horse has got an own mind. But the child need patience for manage the horse and for doing the practice too. The patience is growing by the therapy day by day.

Controlling the feelings, self- discipline

Many times happens that the little rider can't controll his/ her feelings at the therapy. The healthy rider learns fast that the screaming, crying and the emotional explosions upset the horse, and the horse could be afraid of the rider by it. The handicapped children can't controll their feelings in every situation. For that is very important the high qualificated therapeutic horse and the therapeutist's help and care. The handicapped child learns to control his/ her feelings step by step and then to use them well.

Feeling "healthy human"

The riding gives the feelings like "I can do it too", "I am able to do something" – as the healthy people's case too -, and the patient feel him/herself whole "safe and sound".

Bringing mind to bear upon

At the start (at many cases) the child doesn't concentrate his/ her attention to the riding. After a few times he/ she learns control and manage it with the games and the therapeutist's help. Often the technique of the riding is not too important but what the child does on riding. Meanwhile the rider weighs with the horse he/ she learns to controls his/ her world more and more.

Feeling "competency"

(I can sit on the horseback.) The smart, intelligent animal makes her/himself understood. The patient can form a close connection with the therapeutist and the helpers. The child learns to manoeuvre the horse at the therapy. These experiences can grow the child's competency- feeling.
